Breasts is a major group exhibition celebrating the iconography and symbolism of breasts during the 60th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia. Breasts showcases the diverse works of more than thirty emerging and established artists from around the world, spanning the realms of painting, sculpture, photography, and film from 1500 until modern day. Breasts is comprised of five distinct rooms as well as an immersive and site-specific entryway designed by Buchanan Studio. The exhibition includes surrealist artworks by Giorgio de Chirico, Marcel Duchamp and Salvador Dali’s Nude with Snail Breasts. Through the lens of photography, the third room examines the impact of digital media on the representation of breasts. The Surrealist photography of Robert Mapplethorpe and Irving Penn explores unconventional and symbolic representations of the body, moving beyond traditional and literal depictions. THE DESIGN STORY The Mother of the Gods pendant hand-designed by Alexia and Stalo Karides in Athens, is inspired by the Greek Minoan Snake Goddesses found in Knossos. The ultimate statement necklace, they are a modern interpretation of the Minoan Snake Goddesses, aiming to demonstrate the power, strength, and beauty inherent in femininity and reflect the essence of a society that honoured the sacred and maternal from ancient times.
