From the brand: The Story
The Stingers were a CBA expansion franchise starting play in 1983 who were started by stock broker Jeffrey Fischer who, it turned out, used stolen funds from his clients to start the franchise. H
e got away with it for an entire season before the Securities & Exchange Commission caught up to him in June 1984.
On the court, the Stingers finished the 1983-84 campaign tied for last place in the CBA’s Eastern Division with a 16-28 record.
In July 1986, new ownership purchased the franchise and relocated the team to Charleston, West Virginia for the 1986-87 CBA season.
