In 1953, the Hormel Company wanted to capitalize on this trend and attached over 5 million wool felt 4 x 9 inch pennants representing 95 different universities to their soup cans using rubber bands (seriously!). Once advertised in comic books and at grocery stores, very few of these special collectibles remain today.
