THE STORY
Cus D’Amato, an Italian boxing trainer, adopted and groomed a 16-year-old Iron Mike Tyson after his mother died. Born in the Brownsville neighborhood, Tyson quickly rose to the top after his first professional fight on March 6, 1985. The Baddest Man on the Planet would go on to win 44 of his fights by KO. The Brooklyn borough neighborhood was bought at auction in 1866 by Charles S. Brown, who named it Brownsville.
