THE STORY
The upscale Renaissance Ballroom and Casino was the keystone to its Harlem neighborhood during its peak in the 1920s and 30s. Not only did it feature some of the best-known jazz notes in the world but it was home to the New York Rens, the all-black basketball team, who in 1939, won the inaugural World Championship of Professional Basketball.
