The RJ-1 is one of the OG Freenote pieces, returning year-after-year with slight revisions and tweaks as the brand has continued to grow and develop. After many seasons of the usual waxed canvas model, Freenote have introduced an all-leather version of this popular style, made atelier-style in Southern California.
Cut as a functional Rider's jacket, it's got a bi-swing action back, giving you the best of both worlds — full mobility through the sleeves and shoulders as well as a handsome, fitted silhouette. The hardware is all custom, which is really fitting for a jacket of this calibre, and the seams feature Freenote's usual heavy duty 1/8" double-needle stitching for maximum durability.
This edition is made from an all black calfskin leather from UK tannery Tusting & Burnett. Featuring a waxed finish, it's got a firm but comfortable hand that requires little break-in. Clocking in somewhere between 1.2 and 1.3mm thick, it's primarily vegetable-tanned, and will quickly take the shape of the wearer's body and relax into shape.
It's lined with a 100% cotton moleskin from Japan, and features a cotton/rayon blend through the sleeves for easy layering.
True to size. Wear the hell out of it and don't worry about washing it (or spot clean).
