Viberg's N1 Boot is modeled off of vintage examples of WWII boots from their own archive, and closely references those originals in its details, as well as its foundational shape and materials. A rounder 2040 last, chantal brown eyelets, Dr. Sole cord sole, unlined upper, and unstructured toe all reference vintage military boots, and come together with Horween's own Natural Marine Field Roughout to form a very handsome, very sturdy interpretation of WWII service boots with that additional Viberg DNA.
Back in 1940, with World War II in full swing, the US government specifically requested Chicago's own family-owned Horween Tannery to develop a leather for use in the US Military's Marine Corps. After two years of experimentation and development, Horween presented the military with their Marine Field Roughout, and amongst all the competitors, it was chosen as the upper for the storied Marine Field Shoe. It was so well-suited for the job, and so well-liked by the Marines and the military that it also started to be used for Army footwear within a short time. That same leather has continued to be a core part of Horween's leather production over the decades, and is still produced today.
