Lawn has fine threads, tightly woven, which make it very soft to the touch, with a crisp hand.  It wears "cool", feels like a breeze on your skin...a bit billowy. We like to describe it as parachute cloth, but made out of cotton. It's not sheer, but is a bit translucent, especially in lighter colors.
