Product Description

Crafted from durable 100% cotton typewriter cloth, this reversible sun hat features an adjustable band for personalized comfort and fit. One side boasts a classic Olive Drab for subtle camouflage, while the vibrant yellow reverse ensures visibility in emergency situations. Originally designed for survival training, it's ideal for outdoor adventures, offering protection from the elements while doubling as a practical tool. Stylish yet functional, this hat is perfect for those who embrace adventure and rugged aesthetics. From the brand: The REVERSIBLE SUN HAT WITH ADJUSTABLE BAND is a survival hat originally issued alongside the C-1 Sustenance Vest and developed in the 1940s. This model is constructed from a high-density typewriter cotton cloth, of which the handle is similar to cotton poplin, lightweight and crisp, with a firm structure. One side is finished in Olive Drab, intended for concealment whether stalking prey or when in enemy held territory. The reverse side is rendered in high-visibility yellow, designed to attract the attention of rescue aircraft in emergency situations. Though often confused with the HAT, SUN, OLIVE, GREEN ARMY SHADE 107, which was worn by the U.S. Army from the 1960s through the 1980s, both hats can be confirmed to have been used during NASA’s tropical survival training programs in the 1960s, where their practicality in jungle environments was demonstrated. Clear visual distinctions between these models are the ventilation eyelets fitted in to the crown, which are omitted from the HAT, SUN, OLIVE, GREEN ARMY SHADE 107. The orange-lined-107 model would also typically bear detailed specifications which were printed on the orange side, along with a DSA or DLA contract number. Originally distributed with a small survival booklet, the hat is described as HAT WITH ADJUSTABLE BAND, 2 COLORS (YELLOW ON ONE SIDE, OD ON OTHER) and appears as a multi tool of sorts. “Made to fit the biggest head in the army”, the hat was described as being suitable to use as a container for berries, roots, mussels and clams when not being used to bail out a life raft or fan a smoldering fire in to flame. Though typically it was most suitable for protection against nature and the elements. “Wear this hat at all times. You may look like a pirate but it will protect your heads against sun stroke, rain bugs, wind and spray.” 100% Cotton Typewriter Cloth Cotton Canvas Snap Adjuster Cotton Sewing Thread Construction Made in Japan
