The Sharinbai tree, native to Amami, has long been used in the region's dyeing traditions. Its wood yields a natural dye of warm, rosy color, brought to life as artisans hand-dye each piece with the same methods passed down through generations. To complete the dyeing process, artisans employ dorozome, Amami's renowned mud-dyeing technique. By soaking the fabric in iron-rich mud, the minerals settle into the fibers, deepening the color in a way only possible through this traditional method.
