Originally established as a small fruit stand in 1950 on the site of James Drummond Dole's first pineapple fields, it officially opened to the public as "Hawaii's Pineapple Experience" in 1989. The plantation sits on the original homestead where Dole, known as the "Pineapple King," began his agricultural empire in 1899 after purchasing 64 acres of land. At its peak, the Dole organization expanded to purchase the entire island of Lanai, turning it into the world's largest pineapple plantation. Today, the site serves as a living museum of Hawaii's agricultural heritage, welcoming over one million visitors annually
