From the brand: The Studio D’Artisan D1904 Futa-Ai Jeans are a 16oz regular straight jean inspired by the historic Japanese colour “Nitai”, a purple shade traditionally created by dyeing indigo and safflower together. Once associated with nobility during the Heian period, the colour brings a distinctive balance of calmness, elegance and strength to the denim.
The warp threads are dyed with a combination of natural indigo and madder to recreate a deep, rich purple hue, with natural dye variation adding depth and character. Both warp and weft use textured 6-count slub yarn, giving the denim a substantial, irregular surface. Woven slowly on a power loom in Ibara City, Okayama Prefecture, the fabric has a unique texture and a strong sense of Japanese craft.
