From the brand: Senui is a one-person operation, specializing in handmade shirts and shirt-jackets. Designed, run, and produced entirely by Hiroyuki Kato at a small workshop in Japan, the name Senui is taken from traditional kimono construction details — in Japanese, Senui means "backstitching", referring to the vertical seam that runs down the back of a proper kimono. Each Senui shirt is finished with a singular seam running down the back, as opposed to having multiple side seams, creating a much more elegant silhouette and gentle drape.
The Sally Side Slit Shirt has been a staff favorite for several seasons, and is finally gracing our lineup for everyone else. This is one of Senui's women's styles, cut in a single size, with a relaxed and breezy fit that looks great when worn TTS or oversized. Unlike many of Senui's other shirts, these do in fact feature side seams (hence the name), as well as the usual back seam in their construction, allowing for a more versatile and relaxed fit.
It lends itself well to being worn open or as an overshirt, in addition to being worn just as a regular shirt. These blend more casual and traditional details, with a curved front shirttail hem and a flat one in the back, separated by two surprisingly deep vent grooves that let the whole thing flow and drape more naturally as you move. Beyond that, they've got a classic collar, full sleeves with gathered cuffs, and a six-button placket to close the whole thing up.
It's made from "heavy" poplin, a relatively thick cotton poplin fabric with a beautiful drape and a classic all-white body. Though it's already soft and comfortable when new, it'll continue to relax and soften more over time, developing a very natural and relaxed fit as you wear it.
