The Foxfibre® Tsuriami T-Shirt is an outstanding "basic" knit made from an exceptional cotton fabric on vintage loopwheel machines. Foxfibre®, an organically grown cotton that is naturally brown and requires no dye to achieve its color. Grown here in the USA before being woven into yarn and then knit up in Japan, it's an extremely unique cotton that will age beautifully over time, developing a subtle patina with wear. The "Coyote 15" colorway is a blend of 15% Foxfibre® and 85% organic Extra Long Staple and organic upland cottons.
Weighing in at a comfortable 228gsm / 6.7oz, lightweight and breathable for the summer, they're made on vintage Japanese Tsuriami (loopwheel) machines. These machines produce fabric very slowly, humming along at just 1 meter per hour and producing about one half roll of fabric in a day. By comparison, a modern knitting machine can blast out about five full rolls in the same amount of time, operating at roughly 10 times the speed of a loopwheeler.
The fabrics created are anything but equal. The "slow and steady" nature of loopwheel machines comes from the gravity-fed nature of the knit - with minimal tension applied, the finished product is light, airy, and remarkably soft from the moment its knit. They're finished with a more contemporary and athletic fit, cut with side seams for a more anatomical shape, sewn up flat on Union Special machines.
