first flannel collaboration
with Samurai Jeans, the OD+SJ “Yoroi” Heavyweight Rope Dyed Indigo Flannel Shirt places the focus firmly on rope-dyed indigo while drawing inspiration from traditional Japanese armor.
The name “Yoroi” (鎧)
refers to samurai armor, often combining deep indigo tones with bold red accents. Indigo represented practicality and protection, while red symbolized strength and presence on the battlefield. This contrast forms the foundation of the shirt’s custom check pattern, where indigo dominates and red cuts through for a sharp, balanced composition.
Woven in Nishiwaki, Hyogo, Japan’s historic shirting region, the fabric was developed through multiple rounds of sampling with the Samurai team to achieve the final color and weight. The result is a heavyweight flannel built from rope-dyed indigo yarns, designed to fade and evolve with wear.
Samurai’s signature attention to detail carries throughout. Indigo-dyed nut buttons will develop patina over time, while reinforced elbow panels and triple-needle chainstitch construction ensure long-term durability.
