The “HELL DIVER” print refers to the Curtiss SB2C Helldiver, a scout bomber adopted by the U.S. Navy in the later stages of the Second World War. Developed by Curtiss-Wright, the aircraft gained a reputation among crews for difficult and unpredictable handling. Among its less flattering nicknames was “Son-of-a-Bitch 2nd Class,” a tongue-in-cheek play on the SB2C designation.
