Strategic Air Command, or SAC, was established in 1946 during the final years of the U.S. Army Air Forces and later became one of the principal commands of the United States Air Force.
Its role centred on the operation of long range strategic bombers, which formed the backbone of the American nuclear deterrent during the early Cold War. From the late 1950s onward, as intercontinental ballistic missiles entered service, SAC also assumed operational control of these systems. Aircraft developed in the same era, such as the McDonnell F-101 VOODOO, as depicted with MJ26007 TYPE L-2B / VOODOO, became a part of the rapid technological change that came to define this Jet Age.
