Rugged Warmth: Jungle Cloth × Alpaca Wool
The outer fabric is made from high-density cotton grosgrain, known as “Jungle Cloth” and originally adopted during WWII. Its tightly woven plain-weave construction—with fine warp threads and thick weft threads—creates pronounced ridges, giving the fabric a rugged, durable, and wind-resistant texture.
The lining features luxurious alpaca mohair and wool pile.
Long alpaca fibers are looped to trap air, providing exceptional insulation. Thanks to natural oils, alpaca feels soft to the touch with less itchiness compared to typical sheep’s wool. Its excellent moisture absorption and release properties help prevent dampness, keeping you comfortable.
Vintage-Inspired Functional Details
The neck features a stand-up collar with a chin strap that keeps you warm without a scarf.
The front features a wide flap with buttons and a zipper for maximum wind protection, preventing drafts from entering through the zipper. The zipper pull is slightly longer for easy use while wearing gloves, and the TALON zipper has been upgraded from nickel to brass for authenticity.
Four underarm ventilation eyelets allow airflow. In the late model, their position was revised and the eyelets enlarged for improved practicality.
Large side pockets are designed to be accessible even while wearing gloves.
The sleeves feature a double-layer rib for warmth and cold protection, providing a cleaner, less bulky fit compared to earlier models that used alpaca mohair.
Interior loops at the underarm and hem reference vintage life jacket cords, but have been simplified compared to earlier models. Hem drawcords are enlarged in the late model, improving usability, blocking wind, and allowing silhouette adjustment.
Chest stenciling “U.S.N.” evokes the authentic atmosphere of WWII naval garments.
