In the 18th and 19th centuries the main fabrics for workwear were the 100% linen fabrics whose fibers came from Normandy ; then appeared the mixed cotton/linen compositions and then the 100% cotton. Some fabric manufacturers were specialized only in blue because of the strong demand for this colour. Then some of the mills in the 1920 – 1930 extended their range of colours to black or brown, and also supplied Vétra with bisonne cloth in a natural colour or bleached it to offer white.
