In 1947 the U.S. Army Air Corps (USAAC) was re-established as the United States Air Force (USAAF), the USAAF held on to the iconic “Hap Arnold Wing” symbol which was respectfully named after General Henry Harley "Hap" Arnold.
This insignia was designed by, James T. Rawls, an artist and a member of General Arnold's staff. This symbol went through a number of changes before being given approval by General Arnold. It is said that after being shown a photograph of Winston Churchill's “V for victory”, James Rawls tilted the wings, sketching them wings up.
The U.S.A.A.F motif is rubber-printed by hand in our Kobe-based factory.
