Named after the ninth studio album by the Grateful Dead, Terrapin Station Gas & Liquor opened its doors in Taos, NM in 1979. Like the Laurel Canyon Country Store in LA, it would become synonymous with Taos and its outsider community. A gas station come deli-bodega serving local freelance artists, leggy B-list actresses, musicians, truckers and the stop-and-go traffic that creeps up the 64 into Taos, it was originally built in the early 1900s as a resting place for hunters.
