THE EPITOME OF 50'S STYLE
ORIGINS
For us, the 1950s was the epitome of classic, timeless styles when the world was introduced to high waisted trousers, sports jackets and the iconic bowling shirt. Leaving the workplace behind, men in the 50’s wanted a new look when they returned home. Grey, 3-piece suits were hung up and replaced with vibrant, comfortable leisurewear with sharp, crisp lines. The bowling shirt could be worn open or dressed with a pair of smart trousers and came in new and exciting colours and patterns, including Hawaiian prints.
It became a subtle statement of rebellion against the restrictive shirt and tie attire that American men most often wore out of the house. Since then, the Cuban collared bowling shirt has been seen on some of America’s most defining male characters: James Bond, JFK, Elvis, Ernest Hemmingway, and Martin Luther King Jr., to name a few.
