As Richard Press, grandson of Jacobi (J.) Press, himself, tells it, “The Grasshopper was our signature emblematic tie at our New Haven store near the Yale campus. A tale circulated of a Smith coed asking her Yalie date if the grasshopper motif tie he was wearing signified membership in a club.
