Pepperdine University expanded on to its Malibu campus in 1972, its religious affiliations with the Churches of Christ meant that it was a dry campus, no alcohol and no parties. Local surfers and skaters came up with the idea of an alternative Malibu U, their campus was the beach and their classroom the ocean, students majored in partying.
