The SMUGS in Aspen Horsehide are sneakers built with the same discipline and material standards as a great boot. Handmade in Sheffield, England, this edition introduces Horween’s Aspen leather to the SMUGS silhouette, a full-grain, vegetable-tanned European horsehide developed for depth, durability, and character.
Aspen is finished with a subtle shine aniline topcoat, giving the leather a wet, mirror-like sheen that softens and settles with wear. Each hide is tumbled, creating natural pebble grain variation across the surface, no two pairs are ever the same. Supple out of the box yet structurally sound, the leather moulds to the foot over time while retaining its shape, developing a rich, personal patina with every step.
Built using a resoleable Blake stitch construction, the SMUGS are stitched fully underfoot, creating a complete shoe structure before the sole is applied and sidewall stitched. This allows the sneakers to be rebuilt through our Rebuild+ service, extending their life far beyond that of a typical sneaker.
Lined with smooth horse leather and finished with a supportive leather insole, the SMUGS balance comfort with longevity, designed to be worn hard, repaired properly, and kept for years.
