Product Description
The Howard Jacket combines aviator-inspired design with sumptuous materials, featuring a unique two-tone body of vegetable-tanned horsehide and horsehair-on-hide. Crafted for optimal warmth and style, this jacket boasts an asymmetrical placket, large lapels, and a rich crimson melton wool lining. With thoughtful details like convertible buttons and adjustable fit, it encapsulates both sophistication and practicality—ideal for the fashion-forward individual looking for timeless elegance. From the brand: The Howard Jacket is an exceptional leather that Black Sign have cooked up for Fall/Winter 2025. It takes inspiration from aviator-style jackets and leatherwear of the 1930s, with a two-texture body that combines tanned horsehide and horsehair-on-hide, as well as complex patterning and tailoring throughout. It features a really unique asymmetrical placket that can be unbuttoned into exaggerated lapels, or sealed closed for maximum warmth and protection. The horsehide leather used for the body is sourced from Italy and re-finished in Japan. Brought overseas as vegetable-tanned horsehide, it is then re-oiled before having a surface dye applied, resulting in a beautiful tea-core leather that will only get better and better with time. It's complimented further with tonal black horsehair-on-hide, sourced from specific tanneries in France and Poland and selected for consistency in color and length, it's a glossy and surprisingly soft contrast to the smooth leather on the rest of the jacket. In terms of details, it has a lot of them. First worth mentioning is the lining, which is a tweedy melton wool blend fabric with a rich crimson-red finish, a warm and comfortable choice that provides a subtle flash of contrast if spotted. The "default" buttons are flat tonal coat buttons, but every jacket comes with a full set of leather-wrapped dome buttons, which a tailor can swap out for you in exchange for some amount of your local currency (this is traditionally how one persuades a tailor to alter their clothing). It's also got two bucket pockets on the front, two adjuster tabs with buckles on the back, and a large inverse box pleat cut into the back for extra ease of motion. Fits true to size. Do not wash or dry.
