From the brand: The Story
Representing the transition from the MiLL to the NLL, the Syracuse Smash were an expansion team into the newly named league in 1998.
Despite featuring legendary Syracuse University players in their lineup like Paul Gait,
the Smash flopped at the box office and struggled to put a good product on the field, finishing 6-30 during its three-year run - good for last in the standings each season. The lasting image of the team's on-going roster issues was the time it had to pull a 43-year-old fan/practice goalie out of the War Memorial stands to fill in during a game when the regular goalie got hurt. The team folded after the 2000 season.
