The owner of the local hockey shop and mentor to Gordon Bombay, Hans was a pivotal character in the Mighty Ducks franchise who was actually based on a real person: the "surly old" owner of the
skate shop in a Culver City, California arena where writer Steve Brill and director Peter Berg would go ice skating.
