The Explorer reference 1016 was produced from 1960 until circa 1989 and it was the first Explorer with “Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified" on the dial. The 1016 is one of the purest expressions of watch design and Wind Vintage is asked for great vintage Explorer reference 1016 examples more than any other watch.
This example features a gilt dial, the rare Exclamation dial. The dial has developed a tropical tone. The hands have been relumed in the past. There is some lume missing in the seconds hand.
The case has been polished. It measures 36mm in diameter (43mm lug-to-lug).
It is paired on a 7206 Rolex rivet bracelet with 58 end links dating to 1963.
It features a 901,XXX serial dating it to circa 1963. The case back features the engraving “M.T. Greenland 1969”.
The second hand has been relumed.
