From the brand: W'Menswear was founded by Lauren Yates in 2015, born out of a desire to produce high quality, heritage-inspired garments for women - with a nuanced and ever-evolving perspective on femininity at the intersections of fashion, workwear, military garments, and history. Originally operating out of a converting shipping container in Bangkok, the brand has grown substantially with each new collection, employing specialty and custom fabrics as well as partnering with local workshops & artisans.
Introducing the new Spring/Summer '24 Collection: Pawai Paratroopers - a celebration of Thailand's first group of female paratroopers, whose motto was "to prove that women can do anything as well as a man, no matter what affair. Whatever the task, be it on land, in water, or in the air." (Paratrooper Ampai Sombat, Freedom Magazine 1961). Through their action, these women became cultural figureheads of radical change during the 1960s, inspiring new attitudes towards women and social progress throughout Thailand.
The Mohom Shirt is a simplified collarless overshirt with a relaxed fit, rounded neckline, and two hand pockets just above the hem. The reinforced placket closes up with internal snap fastenings that were handsewn into the fabric during construction, and the sleeves are cut fairly wide, with an anatomical taper from the shoulder to the wrist. It's an excellent layering piece, both thanks to the sheerness of the material and the roomy fit that sits easily over other knit or woven garments.
It's made from a custom polyester Organza fabric, designed by and produced exclusively for W'Menswear by a mill in Japan, who handled both the weaving and printing of the material. Featuring a high-vis twist on a classic Vietnam-era Tiger Camo pattern, the material is ultralight and remarkably sheer, breathing exceptionally well when temperatures rise and layering easily over other garments.
