From the brand: The L-2A/L-2B flight jackets were among the very first "modern" flight jackets, being some of the first styles designed for the newly minted US Air Force in the run up to the Korean war. Historically, they fit right between the B-15 and the MA-1, originally being made from a lighter weight nylon and lacking the heavy insulation of the B-15, it featured many of the features that would define the upcoming MA-1.
This version is less of a stitch-for-stitch reproduction, instead reimagining the style as a leather flight jacket like its many predecessors. It's cut with a roomy body, featuring full sleeves and knit ribbing at the openings (cuffs, collar, and hem). There are two large pockets on the front, another utility pocket on the left sleeve, and a patch on the front placket that would traditionally be where air tubes and electrical wires for flight helmets would be clipped to, but now just serves as a nod to the originals.
It's made from a lightweight version of Y'2's "Vintage Horse" Japanese horsehide, averaging between just 1mm - 1.2mm in thickness on average. This is a specialized tea-core leather, with a base brown dye applied to the hides during the initial tanning and the black coat only being applied to the surface during finishing.
Consequently, as the jacket ages, the brown core will slowly peek through the black surface of the leather - scuffs and scratches will also highlight the brown sublayer. The leather is also finished with a high gloss that will wear down over time in tandem with the dye, giving the jacket an incredibly dynamic patina. It's lined with a cotton/nylon blend twill in a warm olive green finish, perfectly soft and smooth for easy layering.
