MAN-TLE’s nylon cloth is produced in Fukui, Japan in close collaboration with a local mill. The cloth is boiled in a chloride solution, causing it to shrink permanently, producing the characteristic crinkled surface and a tighter weave that imparts structural water resistance. Both the technique and appearance of the cloth pay homage to traditional techniques used in the production of Japanese Obi belts wherein silk is boiled in sea water.
