This particular illustration features the Moon Bear, or
Tsukinowaguma
, named for the crescent-shaped patch of white fur on its chest. Native to Japan, the Moon Bear is admired for its resilience and gentle strength—walking flat-footed like humans and often sitting upright. Once treasured for its symbolism and medicinal uses, it now stands as a reminder of endurance and balance with nature.
