Army football, centered at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, has a storied history dating back to 1890, when the first Army-Navy Game established one of the most celebrated rivalries in college sports. The team, known as the Black Knights, quickly adopted football as a means to instill discipline, physical fitness, and teamwork among cadets. Army’s golden era occurred in the 1940s under coach Earl “Red” Blaik, when the team won three consecutive national championships (1944–1946) and produced Heisman Trophy winners Glenn Davis and Doc Blanchard.
