We approached our design process for this face covering from the point of view that filtering is just as important preventing droplet spread from the wearer. This meant that comfort and re-usability was going to be our priority during the design process.
For this mask, we decided to use a “bandana” style wearing method for comfort as well as 100% cotton materials for the mask for ease of washing and re-usability. Other features include a single elastic band for tightening and nylon webbing for easy adjustment. The nylon band features a quick release buckles and can be removed during wash or even used with other masks as an alternative to over-the-ear type of bands.
The exterior of the mask is 100% cotton ripstop while the interior is a 100% cotton soft muslin fabric for breathability. There is an additional pocket where DIY filter media can be cut to size and fit between the two layers of fabric.
Due to the many variations in face sizes and shapes, the sizing should be used as a general guidance. Please refer to the sizing diagram below for further details.
For washing, we recommend hand wash and hang dry with a light detergent. There are many resources online for washing methods and sterilization, we recommend reading them and finding the solution that works best for each individual.
