With a diameter of 28cm, it's perfect for creating a chic look while being lightweight and functional. An essential addition to any fashion-forward wardrobe. From the brand: The beret The beret was born in the 15th century in the Béarn region south of Pau, near the Basque country. A true symbol of patriotism for many nations, the black beret has also often been used as a symbol of resistance. Shepherds, peasants, artists, workers, gendarmes, soldiers, revolutionaries, mountain guides, athletes all used the beret in their own way. How to wear it is a personal choice defined by its utility, style, head shape or sense of belonging. The beret according to its circumference allows the versatility of wearing it flat, tilted, forward, backward, or to the side in the military style. French couturiers promoted it in women's fashion as early as the 1930s as a head covering. In particular worn by Michèle Morgan and Greta Garbo. Immortalized again in the 1960s by Faye Dunaway and Brigitte Bardot in Bonnie & Clyde. Traditionally, the beret is made of pure wool to protect against cold and rain. It is designed with wool in its natural state, which is then carded, knitted, felted, and dyed. We have chosen to introduce this Basque beret to our knitting collections for everything it represents. From its history, to the usefulness of wool in its purest form, to its symbolism, and its nostalgia. The choice was instantaneous with Parkhurst, a knitwear specialist in Canada since 1926. It all started when Louis Borsook, the founder of the company, bought beret-making equipment in Europe just after the First World War and brought it back to Canada. Today, Parkhurst produces, among other things, for the North American armies. This classic wool beret has a story!
