Originally produced from 1972 through 1980, the Type I was developed at the request of the United States Military for American soldiers in Vietnam. Designed to be far more robust than any watch previously requested and meet the requirements of the specialized UDT (Underwater Demolitions Team) divers and for field functionality, it was never made available to the public.
