Product Description

Elevate footwear collections with these Clinch Jodhpur boots, crafted from undyed Gustave reverse cowhide leather. A refined update to traditional styles, featuring a modernized silhouette and meticulous hand-sewn welting for durability. The ankle-high design is complemented by solid brass buckles and a comfortable leather lining, ideal for those who appreciate artisanal craftsmanship. Perfect for both casual and sophisticated ensembles, these boots promise to develop a unique character over time, reflecting individual wear and experiences. From the brand: Clinch is made by BRASS, one of the first high-end shoe repair shops to open in Japan, owned and operated by Minoru Matsuura. They quickly evolved from shoe repair; to re-lasting on their own custom lasts; to developing and producing new footwear in-house. Each piece is masterfully built in a Tokyo basement, by just a handful of expert craftspeople. These lasts are where the magic is. Most modern lasts are optimized for mass-production. Wider, straighter, easier to pump through a production line, and easier to fit every single person into. Clinch's lasts start narrow, with a tight fit and a lot of contours to them, much like the lasts of the early 20th century. The Jodhpur boot is an elegant update to a traditional style, with some inspiration taken from Clinch's engineer boots. The exaggerated logger heel has been replaced with a more subdued standard heel, and the vamp front features a mechanical crease line through the center, (an aesthetic detail developed as a result of the lasting process) similar to certain vintage engineer boots (as well as Clinch's own). They're constructed with a 270 degree flat welt featuring a single row of tonal white stitching, complimenting the sleek look and low profile of the unstructured toe. Clinch's welting process is highly precise, utilizing "old-world" manufacturing processes in tandem with their custom lasts & patterns. First, the insole is soaked, then molded to the bottom of the last — from there, the boot is built up around that insole. Every step of the welting process is done by hand, except for the final sewing of the outsoles, a task best done by machine. The uppers are made from natural (undyed) Gustave reverse cowhide, sourced from the Degermann tannery in France. Degermann is France's oldest leather tannery, with a history going back over 300 years. The Gustave leather is combination tanned, meaning the hides are treated with both natural vegetable tannins and mineral ones, resulting in a leather with the durability of a veg tan and the softness of a chrome tan. Over time, the undyed roughout leather will darken noticeably, taking in pigment as you wear the boots and expose them to sunlight, dirt, moisture, and anything else you may stomp around in. The roughout uppers are mostly wholecut, masterfully sewn together from just three panels with extremely precise lines of high-density stitching. Across the back, the two halves of the belt closure cross one another in an X shape, before looping around and meeting on the outside of the shaft. Even the most minor details are considered — from the solid brass buckles, to the internal foil stamp, to the full leather lining and leather insole. They stand on a reproduction O'Sullivan outsole and heel combo, made exclusively for Clinch, further complementing the low-profile silhouette of the boots.
